4 BIRD BEAK ADAPTATIONS

LEARNING INTENTIONS

1) Study the info-graph table below and identify the variations of beak shapes and how these adaptations are suited for different feeding niches.

2) Explore how the the physical body parts, such as the beak of a bird species influence their ability to find food.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:

1) Students will be able to identify variable beak shapes and link this to the adaptations required for individual species feeding needs within different habitats (AC9S5U01)

2) Students can apply their understanding in answering multiple choice questions and short answers justifying the links between beak shape and adaptations towards feeding requirements.

ACTIVITY:

1) Summaries the info graph below and focus on the type of beak shape allowing for adaptations required for each birds feeding needs.

2) Complete the Quiz below by answering the questions. You will need to have a solid understanding of each beak type and adaptation before answering these questions.

3) An additional at home learning activity, which will be continued at school (see below)

Once you have understood the relationship between the bird beak variations and adaptations, complete the quiz.

At home learning activity. You will need to do some experimenting and design at home to further your research in filling out this worksheet. Write your answers in your Science book. Once completed you will need to bring this back to class when we resume to review the results.

This learning journey is now complete please bring all your extra research notes and summaries to class when we meet again so that we can review what we have learnt.
